Leandro Paredes has received major criticism from one of the greatest strikers of all time.
The Argentine ended up in a huge brawl in the aftermath of his side losing 1-0 to Spain in the FIFA World Cup Final 2026 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic says he would’ve ‘headbutted’ Leandro Paredes
The World Cup provided joy for football fans from far and wide this summer, with the drama during the matches captivating even the most casual of viewers. However, Spain vs Argentina didn’t provide much excitement until the final whistle blew.
An enraged Leandro Paredes appeared to grab Eric Garcia by the neck before throwing Gavi towards the ground.
The wild nature of the whole situation left Zlatan Ibrahimovic livid, with the former AC Milan star giving an unfiltered explanation of what would’ve happened had he been on the field.
He told FOX Sports: “Paredes can be happy there was no player like me on the pitch. If I had been there, I would have headbutted him and been sent off. It is unprofessional behaviour from him.”
And it wasn’t just the Boca Juniors midfielder who had to feel the wrath of Ibrahimovic, as the Swede also took aim at the champions, saying: “I don’t know what the Spanish players are doing? They are just watching another player hit their teammate.”
Who could get banned as well as Leandro Paredes?
Unsurprisingly, Paredes could get a severe punishment for his conduct following the final.
However, he’s not the only player in hot water.
Here’s which Argentina players could get banned as well as Paredes.
