Eden Hazard received the support of his teammates after he gave a heartfelt update on his future to Real Madrid fans.
Los Blancos were celebrating their Champions League victory from the weekend – the 14th European Cup in the club’s history.
Unfortunately for Eden Hazard, he had an insignificant impact on Real’s journey to the title.
The Belgian made just three appearances in Europe’s top competition, failing to register a goal or assist. Additionally, Hazard did not enjoy much game time domestically. He played in 18 La Liga games in 2021/22, making only seven starts. However, the forward still picked up another winner’s medal, as Real took the La Liga crown for the 35th time.
But on a personal level, his stint at Real Madrid has been a struggle. Since his £100 million move from Chelsea in 2019, Eden Hazard has experienced numerous spells on the sideline.
Unbelievably, he has missed 72 games due to injury or illness during his time in Spain.
As a result, he has struggled to gain consistency in the Real side. In 66 total appearances, the 2014/15 Premier League Player of the Season has registered a low six goals and 10 assists.
It is a far cry from his devastating form at Chelsea. However, Hazard has not given up hope. He addressed the Madrid faithful as they celebrated the Champions league title.
Eden Hazard addresses Real Madrid fans
Hazard took the mic in front of the jubilant crowd to provide an update on his future. Speculation is rife around the Belgian’s plans, given his disastrous spell in the Spanish capital.
“Madridistas, I’ve been here for three years with many injuries, with many things,” said Hazard. “But next year, I’m going to give it all for you.”
Fans met his brief announcement with cheers, echoed by the happy celebrations of his teammates. Other Real Madrid stars mobbed Hazard once he had finished in a group hug. They then jumped and chanted, clearly pleased at his choice to stay and try to prove his worth at the club.
Thankfully, Hazard also has the manager’s backing. Earlier this month, boss Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that the winger is not for sale.
“His plan is quite clear: he is staying, and he is doing so with a lot of motivation because he has had a tough time in these last years,” confirmed Ancelotti (via talkSPORT).
But what do fans think of the news?
Fans’ support on Twitter
Real Madrid’s Fansided Twitter account signalled their support for the Belgian.
“Eden Hazard hasn’t been able to show his best for Real Madrid since November 2019, but he still has the soul of someone befitting that iconic No.7 shirt,” they tweeted. “If finances must come first, so be it. But the way the players love him is enough for me. They know the club is in his heart.”
Other supporters are happy to see his commitment to the club too. One Twitter user tweeted the clip of Hazard’s speech. He captioned it: “How can you be a Real Madrid fan and not love Eden Hazard?”
It seems fans genuinely want to give Hazard the chance to return to his best. Another user fully supports the winger to bounce back.
“I believe in him,” they tweeted. “Always injured but never gave up and never ONCE spoke bad about us. Someone who truly loves Los Blancos. One more year to redeem himself, and I believe he will.”
Football fans remember just how good Eden Hazard can be when fully fit. Hopefully, he can re-find his form and have a great season in 2022/23.
