American talk show host Sherri Shepherd has revealed she once met AEW star MJF at an airport, describing him as “not nice”.
MJF has been making major wrestling headlines recently for his position within AEW. One of the company’s stars, the 26-year-old is embroiled in a saga over his wrestling future.
Earlier in June, he delivered a scathing promo, attacking other AEW wrestlers and the company’s head promoter, Tony Khan. He even referenced executives from Warner Bros Discovery – the owners of AEW’s TV stations – who were in attendance that night.
MJF’s promo was described as a ‘pipebomb’ by fans, and similar to the one made by CM Punk in WWE in 2011.
He called Khan a “f***ing mark” and demanded that he, himself, be fired.
The primary reported issue concerns MJF’s lower pay compared to other top AEW stars. WrestlingInc claim a “disparity in pay structure” has led to the disagreement.
Since the promo, MJF has been removed from AEW’s online roster page, and his merchandise was pulled from the AEW store. Perhaps most significantly, an edict was issued by Warner Bros discovery to remove MJF from AEW commercials.
Given those developments, fans are now wildly debating whether the whole storyline is just a shoot, or whether there are still genuine issues at play. Only time will tell. However, MJF has become the talk of the wrestling world.
Sherri Shepherd recalls MJF meeting
The 26-year-old even found himself being talked about on US talk show, ‘Sherri‘.
Sherri Shepherd, the host of the show, aired a clip of MJF appearing on ‘The Rosie O’Donnell Show’. The show in question concluded in 2002, so MJF must have been a maximum of seven years old when he was a guest.
Shepherd introduced him as a professional wrestler, which brought lots of applause from the audience in attendance. Things, however, went sour when she said: “The J must stand for jerk”.
She explained that her son spotted MJF at an airport, and was nervous to approach him for an autograph, so Shepherd went up to him instead.
She then recalled the moment when she walked up to him: “I tapped him gently on the leg and said, ‘Excuse me, are you the famous wrestler, MJF?’
“He snapped back. He said: ‘NO’. I said, ‘OK, but do people tell you that you look like the famous wrestler MJF. Then he snapped back and went, ‘YES’, and he put his headphones on, and he turns away from me.”
Shepherd did go on to question whether MJF was simply playing up to his wrestling character. As the 26-year-old has primarily been a heel throughout his career, one possible conclusion to the incident could be that this was indeed the case.
