‘That frosty relationship will be resumed’… European MMA’s biggest rivals prepare for blockbuster rematch

Two of European MMA’s biggest rivals are salivating at the prospect of going head-to-head for the second time, with Jack Cartwright insisting that tensions with Jonas Mågård are going to reach boiling point.

The bantamweights faced off in the cage at Oktagon 61, with both men promising to finish the feud once and for all.

Jack Cartwright and Jonas Mågård promise fireworks in massive rematch

Blessed with dynamite power, Cartwright has cemented his place as one of the most terrifying fighters in Europe, with a reputation for rendering his opponents unconscious with his lightning combinations.

However, at Oktagon 52 in Newcastle, UK, he succumbed to the movement and wrestling prowess of former champion and arch-nemesis Jonas Mågård.

The defeat came as a brutal blow, with Cartwright having spent months trading verbal jabs with his opponent only to lose when it mattered most.

But rather than letting the result deter him, he jumped right back on the horse, taking on Mate Sanikidze in a crunch match-up at Oktagon 61 in Brno, Czech Republic.

In a tough opening round, Cartwright struggled to get to grips with his Georgian opponent, forcing him to bite down on his gumshield.

Showcasing his fighting heart, the Brit began to land his shots and almost locked in a submission en route to winning on the scorecards.

But Cartwright didn’t have long to celebrate, as he swiftly found himself joined by Mågård, who got in his face and challenged him to a rematch.

With insults exchanged, the fans are looking forward to seeing the pair trade leather once again.

Jack Cartwright promises the rivalry with Jonas Mågård will be as ‘frosty’ as ever

Unsurprisingly, the Englishman is revelling in his opportunity for redemption. And while the pair bumped into each other during fight week and managed not to attack one another, Cartwright is more than aware that as soon as the contracts are signed, the rivalry between them will reignite.

At the Oktagon 61 post-fight press conference, Cartwright told Sporf: “I seen him. We bumped into each other. It’s just the pleasantries. I’m not here to start a fight with someone I’m not fighting. But if that fight does get put to me, that frosty relationship will be resumed.

“I’m not one of these guys that’s gonna be here to fight somebody and start a fight with somebody else; I had business to take care of—I took care of it. If Jonas is next, Jonas is next. F**k him, he’s in my sights.”
