With the contest agonisingly close, Van switched gears, piling on the pressure until he dropped the veteran with a powerful right hand to earn a unanimous decision victory.

While the result has undoubtedly hurt Pantoja, the $650,000 (£485,438.72) that landed in his bank account will have likely softened the blow.
