Surgery could prevent Rodri from signing for Real Madrid

Rodri has certainly had a summer to remember. The gifted player helped guide Spain to glory at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Showcasing his ever-impressive footballing IQ, the 30-year-old mesmerised purists around the world, with Rodri winning the Golden Ball Award for his performances.

With his popularity back home at an all-time high, the athlete would love to return to his country, with The Daily Mail reporting that Rodri is now waiting for Real Madrid President Florentino Perez to give the green light on the proposed move.

However, despite this, one thing has reared its ugly head which could potentially stop the transfer dead in its tracks — Rodri needs surgery.

According to The Athletic, the footballer appears set to go under the knife to fix a back issue.

There is currently no timetable for his return to action, which would be problematic for Real Madrid. While prior reports from Spain indicated that his recovery would be quick, it now appears a date for his comeback could only be established once the surgery is complete.

A contract offer at Manchester City does still appear to be on the table. However, Rodri isn’t currently in communication with the Premier League side regarding extending his stay at the Etihad.
