Another day, another twist in the Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury tale.
While the promoters involved continue to claim the fight is close to being booked, it’s hard for fans to really get a read of what’s going on behind the scenes. After all, this is a superfight we’ve all been waiting to see for years now.
The unbeaten Fury is set to put his belts on the line when he takes on Joshua who has been the poster boy of British boxing ever since he first emerged on the scene.
The last few weeks have seemingly seen talks pick up between the two parties. Then, Oleksandr Usyk got involved and put the cat amongst the pigeons.
Now, Tyson Fury himself has made some interesting remarks during an interview with iFL TV.
“There’s a lot going on behind the scenes that can scupper a fight.”
Fury went on to say the trilogy fight against Wilder shouldn’t be ruled out either, which up until now, had seemed dead in the water.
“Nothing’s actually on until you’re in the ring, we’re nowhere near that at the moment… Do I think the fight will eventually happen? Yes. Do I think it’s imminent? No.”
At this stage we can actually hear boxing fans around the world collectively groan in frustration. Once again we’ve been promised some movement and for what feels like the 100th time, the brakes appear to have been slammed on once more.
The money is obviously always a big point of contention, but question marks over location also pose a big spanner in the works. Many want it to happen at Wembley Stadium whereas Fury sees Las Vegas as his new home.
Either way, those hoping for a definitive conclusion to this saga will have to wait.
