Following the final whistle, things well and truly kicked off in the tunnel. Neymar began arguing with rival fans and staff, dancing and shouting ‘Eliminated, eliminated’ in Portuguese, in an attempt to goad his verbal sparring partners.

A furious Remo president Tonhão told reporters: “Santos doesn’t need this sort of thing. And this useless Neymar, who is worshipped by a horde of children, puts on his little show here and then even comes over to provoke us. So it’s our own fault for idolising a horde of good-for-nothings like this guy.”
