Lionel Messi isn’t going to start for Argentina against Jordan at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The Group J fixture will take place at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas, at 3AM on Sunday morning (UK time).
Lionel Messi is being rested against Jordan
With Argentina having produced spectacular performances in their first two group stage games, in which Lionel Messi has broken the FIFA World Cup goal-scoring record, the South American nation has already secured a spot in the Round of 32.
Therefore, from a managerial perspective, there’s no need to risk him. As per KalshiEPL, the legend reportedly informed the boss that he had no interest in starting against Jordan, preferring the idea of being on the bench in order to rest and give younger players an opportunity to play on the grandest stage of them all.
At a press conference, Lionel Scaloni confirmed the news, saying: “Lionel Messi will go to the bench… I’ll hold off on the final starting lineup, but Leo will start later.”
