Steven Gerrard says Antoine Griezmann is very underestimated

In his career, Antoine Griezmann has proven his talent beyond doubt. Renowned for his versatility, high work-rate and clinical finishing ability, the 35-year-old, who’s heading to Orlando City at the end of the season, has carved out a remarkable legacy. Therefore, it goes without saying that Steven Gerrard has massive appreciation for what the World Cup winner brings to the table. He’s gone as far as to say, that the superstar is actually even better than he’s given credit for.

During the TNT Sports broadcast this evening, the Liverpool hero explained why he thinks Diego Simeone has been so passionate and why Griezmann deserves more respect.

He said: “I think that’s why the manager was so emotional. I think the manager is trying to send a message around the dressing room to the squad, to say, ‘Look, we’ve got a living legend here. He’s arguably the greatest player who’s ever played for the club, and we’ve got an opportunity to give him the greatest send-off he could possibly wish for’.

“Let me tell you right now, he’s one of the most underestimated players through my generation and beyond, because he’s so clever. He can influence real big games; he picks up awkward areas on the football pitch, and he’s a superstar around the box. He can create, he can score — what a player he’s been.”
