Aston Villa suffer appalling start to Premier League season after getting annihilated by Brighton

Aston Villa were on the end of a humiliating defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.

After finishing 4th in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, the Midlands side were hoping to start from where they left off, but that certainly wasn’t the case today.

Aston Villa lose 4-0 to Brighton and Hove Albion

It’s going to be a very long trip home for Aston Villa fans who made the trip down south to the American Express Stadium.

In just 31 minutes, the visitors had conceded four goals.

Starting strongly, Maxim De Cuyper capitalised on a poor pass from Pau Torres before firing an effort that hit Victor Lindelof before going into the back of the net.

Shortly after, the Brighton star produced another great piece of play, this time getting himself on the scoresheet after finding himself on the end of a Georginio Rutter cross.

With Villa feeling the pressure, Jack Hinshelwood took advantage, scoring two goals in rapid succession to put his side 4-0 ahead.

Joao Gomes sent off for Aston Villa against Brighton

If losing 4-0 wasn’t bad enough, Villa also had a man sent off.

Five minutes before the end of the first half, after a VAR review for kicking out at Rutter was conducted, Joao Gomes received a second yellow card.

Luckily, the visitors managed to keep a clean sheet in the second 45 minutes to somewhat contain the damage.

Regardless, the team will need to produce a much better display against Arsenal on August 31.
