Manchester United closing in on Carlos Baleba

Manchester United have long admired the skills of Carlos Baleba.

The Cameroonian has looked fantastic during his time at Brighton and Hove Albion, impressing fans at the American Express Stadium with his tenacity, explosive pace, and dribbling skills.

Having previously been linked to the Premier League giants, a move up North seemed likely at the start of the summer transfer window. However, when United were unwilling to pay the £100M asking price, and instead signed, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, the potential deal looked dead in the water.

However, things have now changed. The 3x European Cup winners have offered £65M, including add-ons, to secure the services of the classy operator on a five-year deal.

In addition to the original asking price, United were concerned about signing the footballer after he suffered an injury against Strasbourg in August. However, upon hearing the damage wasn’t as bad as first thought, the club changed its mind.

What has Carlos Baleba achieved ahead of Manchester United move?

Since signing from Lille, Baleba has showcased class in abundance at Brighton.

The midfielder has represented ‘The Seagulls’ 112 times, winning the club’s Young Player of the Year Award in 2024/25.

While capable of creating chances, he’s also got the ability to score himself, with the prospect picking up the Premier League Goal of the Month Award in April 2025, for a scintillating strike against West Ham United.

Last season, he featured in a side that secured a place in the Europa Conference League.
