Ian Machado Garry was paid over £1.5M at UFC 330
Ian Machado Garry proved he very much belongs at world level during his fight with Islam Makhachev.
After being out-grappled in the opening round, the Irishman realised he had to take more risks on the feet, but when he backed out of an exchange and had to eat a huge head kick that sent him tumbling towards the canvas, it looked like it was all over.
However, in a testament to his warrior spirit, he bounced back, winning the third, and pushing the welterweight world champion close in the fourth. Alas, in the final round, he once again struggled to cope with his opponent’s wrestling skills, ultimately losing the contest after being held down by his foe.
Of course, failing to scale the MMA mountain will undoubtedly hurt. However, the enormous pay cheque will likely soften the blow.
Machado Garry made $2.061 (£1.531) for his fight with Makhachev at UFC 330.
