Erling Haaland has left Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the dust with an accomplishment neither of the icons managed to pull off.
The Norwegian has looked nothing short of exceptional throughout the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Erling Haaland has scored in his first three World Cup matches
Erling Haaland entered his first FIFA World Cup with the intention of hitting the ground running. And he’s certainly done just that, scoring in all of his first three appearances in the competition, with his most recent goal coming late against the Ivory Coast to secure his side a place in the Last 16, where they will play Brazil.
WOW: Cristiano Ronaldo deserves to win the FIFA World Cup 2026 for one reason, says legend
The powerhouse is the first player to reach this milestone in 72 years, since Sandor Kocsis back in 1954. The only other man to achieve this was Guillermo Stabile in 1930. However, those two individuals managed to extend their streaks even further, scoring in their first four games, giving Haaland something more to fight for than merely helping his side reach the quarter-final.
While they’ve each achieved a lot in the World Cup, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t make this big a splash when they debuted in the tournament.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric share heartwarming moment
After Haaland bagged a place in the next round of the competition, it was up to Ronaldo to do the same.
However, the Portugal legend almost fell short during a dramatic match with Croatia.
In the end, they managed to get through, and it sent a legend home.
Following the match, Ronaldo and Luka Modric shared a touching moment.
