EXCLUSIVE: Harry Kane is a ferocious football player. Alas, in the eyes of an ex-Premier League star, he just misses out on being an all-time great.
While England has now exited the FIFA World Cup 2026, there’s no denying that the striker had a significant impact in guiding ‘The Three Lions’ to the semi-finals.
David Wheater says Harry Kane lacks pace
Having played against some of the greatest goal-scorers of his era, David Wheater knows exactly what it takes to go down as one of the best the sport has ever seen. And while he rates his countryman extremely highly, the Middlesbrough icon thinks that the Bayern Munich man’s lack of speed prevents him from going down as one of the best to have ever kicked a ball.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, via Midnite, Wheater explained: “I always say, if Harry Kane was that little bit quicker, he’d be one of the world’s best ever, because he’s unbelievable—his brain, he gets in the right positions, his shooting ability, his right and left foot.”
Harry Kane is up there with the best, says England icon
While Wheater thinks Kane just misses out in terms of the GOAT discussion, not everyone agrees.
Having proven his skills in abundance for both club and country, the phenom has become a global star.
And one former England international says Kane is one of the greatest ever.
David Wheater was speaking on behalf of Midnite. The new principal partners of Middlesbrough gave back to fans through their This Season’s On Us campaign, which saw fans rewarded with season tickets, new shirts, and matchday tickets if they successfully completed some football-based challenges at The Riverside
