EXCLUSIVE: Harry Kane is one of the greatest footballers who’s ever lived, according to a former England international.
The striker has looked nothing short of fantastic throughout the FIFA World Cup 2026 thus far, with the Bayern Munich star playing a massive role in helping ‘The Three Lions’ overcome Mexico at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico, to advance to the quarter-finals.
Des Walker says Harry Kane is one of the best ever
Having defended against an array of top-class finishers, Des Walker is in the perfect position to analyse just how good Harry Kane is. And according to the former Nottingham Forest defender, his countryman is one of the best to have ever graced the football pitch.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, via Wiz Slots, Walker explained: “Harry is an all-round player. I think his game has benefited from him going to play in Germany. I think he’s added dimensions to his game. Yeah, he scores a phenomenal amount of goals, but he also contributes even if he doesn’t score. He wins headers and he battles. We got a penalty against Mexico just because Harry competed with the defender. Sometimes, other players just stand and watch. In terms of that, he’s up there with the very best ever, and his goal record proves that.”
Des Walker reacts to England defeating Mexico
In the early hours of Monday morning, Walker watched on as his beloved England overcame the almost insurmountable task of defeating Mexico at the Azteca. And he couldn’t have been more thrilled by the result.
The 60-year-old enthused: “It’s fantastic. I think people doubted them, and having been in a situation where I’ve been doubted, it’s nice to get yourself over the line. The more adversity England faces, the more they triumph. Despite people citing the obstacles in the way, I didn’t think it would be a problem. We started well and slowed them down. It was a fantastic performance; it’s all about getting your name into the next round — it doesn’t matter how you get there. We really were the away team that was a proper away fixture, and we did enough to win.”
