David Wheater claims Jermain Defoe was harder to play against than Didier Drogba

Didier Drogba is undeniably one of the greatest strikers to have ever graced the Premier League, with the legend leaving centre-backs in the dust with his tremendous skills.

However, David Wheater claims Jermain Defoe made for a trickier challenge than the Chelsea hero.

WOW: Didier Drogba: Top five goals of the Chelsea legend’s amazing career

When asked whether playing against the former Tottenham Hotspur star provided a trickier test during an exclusive interview with Sporf, via Midnite, the Middlesbrough icon, replied: “Yeah, one of my first games, I remember Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane—they were small, sharp, and tough, so they had everything. It was just hard work. With Didier Drogba, I loved playing against the top players. Even when we played the front three at Manchester United of Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, I just loved it. It was brilliant. There was Fernando Torres for Liverpool, too; it was a top era for strikers. Playing for my hometown team at the top stadiums was brilliant.”
