Has Nick Kyrgios ever beaten Novak Djokovic? Their head-to-head record

Has Nick Kyrgios ever beaten Novak Djokovic? We took a look at the head-to-head record of the 2022 Wimbledon finalists to find out who has the edge going into Sunday’s climax.

The final of Wimbledon 2022 is set to take place on Sunday at 2 pm. The Centre Court clash sees six-time winner Djokovic take on the controversial Kyrgios.

Djokovic reached the final by defeating Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the penultimate stage on Friday. The Serbian survived an early scare after Norrie took the first set. He overcame his opponent with ease in the end, winning by three sets to one.

Kyrgios has stirred up a fuss in this year’s tournament. His unorthodox approach and fiery temper has caught the attention of spectators, and resulted in clashes with the umpires and the media.

He is now just one step away from victory.

Kyrgios progressed to the final due to the injury of Rafael Nadal, and is looking for his first-ever Wimbledon title on Sunday.

Of course, coming up against Novak Djokovic is an intimidating task, as the Serb is undoubtedly the favourite for this clash. But, it is one Kyrgios has overcome before.

Has Nick Kyrgios ever beaten Djokovic?

Yes, he has. In fact, when it comes to Kyrgios’ head-to-head record with Djokovic, he’s out in front.

The pair have faced each other twice before, with Kyrgios winning both.

2017 was the year for both of these victories, in the ATP Masters 1000 Indian Wells in the USA and the Acapulco in Mexico.

The first of these clashes, at Indian Wells, was a relatively short encounter. The pair faced in the round of 16.

Kyrgios took the first set 6-4. The second set was closer, with the Australian winning 7-6 after a tie-break.

In that tournament, Kyrgios was forced to withdraw due to illness. He tweeted afterwards to say he believed he was suffering from food poisoning. That meant quarter-final opponent Roger Federer got a walkover.

The second match between Kyrgios and Djokovic was in Mexico. Kyrgios scraped the first set 7-6 after a tiebreak, and the second set was also close at 7-5.

This was a quarter-final match, and the Australian went on to be defeated in the semi-final by American Sam Querrey.

History favours Kyrgios going into Sunday’s Wimbledon final. However, Djokovic has a knack for delivering on the big stage, and they don’t come much more significant than Centre Court at Wimbledon.
