EXCLUSIVE: Ollie Sentance has travelled a wild road to his showdown against Lee Selby at BKB 61.
The warrior is set to face ‘The Welsh Mayweather’ on November 14 at the O2 Indigo in London, UK, in a match-up that looks destined to excite.
Ollie Sentance thrived on the unlicensed circuit
Traditionally, fighters who reach the top level, go through trials and tribulations in the amateurs, where they hone their craft before entering the professional ranks.
However, Ollie Sentance endured a very different path to get to the position he’s in now.
The natural-born competitor learned his skills on the unlicensed scene, where he engaged in mass brawls, fought opponents on virtually no notice and everything in between.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, Sentance reminisced: “We’ve had fights in the ring before, I’ve had fights with cornermen before when things have got a bit nasty after the fight and cornermen have jumped up, and we’ve had a big brawl in the ring on the unlicensed circuit.
“We’ve turned up on days when we’re meant to fight someone we’ve been training for, and they’re like, ‘Yeah, you’re fighting this guy now’. There’s been lots of mad stuff. I fought twice in one night; it’s a mad old game, the unlicensed circuit, but it’s where I come from. I’ve got a lot of respect for the fighters on there.
“This win against Lee Selby is going to be dedicated to the lads and ladies on the unlicensed circuit trying to make stuff happen. We don’t get the credit we deserve. There are a lot of guys and girls on that circuit who are top-quality fighters; Fabio Wardley is the perfect example. He had a few unlicensed fights, and he won a world heavyweight title. There’s a lot of talent there, and I know lots of people who’ve done well there and turned professional. God bless them all.”
Ollie Sentance predicts stoppage victory against Lee Selby
While an underdog going into his clash with Selby, Sentance has full confidence that he has the minerals to defeat the former IBF featherweight champion and earn his opportunity to face BKB super lightweight King Estevan Partida.
The Englishman enthused: “I’m absolutely buzzing. It’s the right fight at the right time. I’m going to use everything I’ve got to beat this man, and I’m going to claim my world title shot. 90% of BKB fights finish in stoppages, so it’s going to be a stoppage.”
