‘The Leeds fans were kicking the van’… Lee Selby on clash with Josh Warrington supporters ahead of potential BKB rematch

EXCLUSIVE: Lee Selby witnessed Josh Warrington fans kicking his van.

In his career, the Welshman has had many a big night, from winning his IBF featherweight world championship belt against Evgeny Gradovich to defending it against Fernando Montiel in Glendale, Arizona, USA.

Now he’s focusing on the next chapter of his career, with his upcoming bout on November 14 against Ollie Sentance at BKB 61 inside the O2 Indigo, in London, UK, set to deliver fireworks in abundance.

And if he emerges from the contest unscathed, a rematch with ‘The Leeds Warrior’ or a world title clash with Estevan Partida could lie ahead.

Lee Selby on near-brawl with Josh Warrington fans

Prior to his showdown with Josh Warrington back in 2018, Lee Selby had to deal with his rival’s fans, who didn’t quite realise who they were dealing with as one of ‘Lightning’s’ trainers had been preparing for battle.

In an exclusive interview with Sporf, Selby explained: “Billy Reynolds is a very tough man. He’d been training. He was hoping it was going to kick off so he could have a fight. It’s funny, we were in the van going to or leaving the weigh-in, and the Leeds fans were kicking and banging the van, shouting abuse, and I thought they were so lucky that the driver didn’t stop, because the guys in my van would’ve battered the whole crowd. They would’ve been in trouble.”

Lee Selby wants BKB world title clash with Estevan Partida

At 5ft8, Selby was always the taller operator when he was boxing at featherweight and lightweight. However, at 6ft1, his next opponent will provide an extremely stern test.

But having achieved so many things throughout his career, ‘The Welsh Mayweather’ still enters the bout as a firm favourite. And should he do what’s expected of him, then a shot at the BKB super lightweight world champion is likely just around the corner.

Selby enthused: “Hopefully, I come through my contest with Sentance with the win. Then, I’d like to fight Estevan Partida for the world title in my next fight.”
