JBL compares WWE star Damian Priest to two all-time greats

Damian Priest is rapidly rising through the ranks in the WWE. So it’s no surprise that his performances have caught the eye of a wrestling legend.

Since his debut in the company in 2018, the 39-year-old worked tirelessly to rise up the ladder of the premier promotion and become one of their flagship performers. Now, he is reaping the rewards of the craft.

At WrestleMania 37, he teamed up with rap star Bad Bunny to take on notorious tag team The Miz and John Morrison. The contest couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start. The former champions bullied the chart-topping sensation. But eventually, Priest used his experience to help his partner uncover his high-flying potential to win the match.

The 249-pound beast carried this momentum into SummerSlam, where he defeated Sheamus to claim the United States Championship. Since his crowning moment, he has successfully defended the belt on multiple occasions, most recently against AJ Styles on Raw.

The company clearly has massive belief in the menacing striker, who has recently received a comparison to two of the best to do it.

Damian Priest gets honoured with huge praise from a WWE icon

Damian Priest has had his praises sung by former WWE Champion, John “Bradshaw” Layfield.

During an appearance on The Angle Podcast, JBL revealed that he believes that Priest has the talent to have competed in any era. And if that wasn’t already a big enough compliment, he compared the reigning United States Champion to John Cena and The Rock.

The 55-year-old said: “Damian Priest, not that he needs the rub. But that guy is a rockstar, man. You know, he just has a presence about him, and you can’t replicate that.

“You know, some guys have that, some guys don’t. I was at a deal here in DC recently, and Mike Singletary walked in, and as soon as he did, you know, he’s an older guy now. He’s not very big. Everybody knew a star had walked into the room.

“Some guys just have that. The Rock has that. Cena has that. I think Damian Priest has that. I’d love to have him be part of some type of Cabinet. “

He admitted that he is also a massive fan of Alpha Academy stablemates and reigning Raw Team Tag Champions, Otis and Chad Gable.

JBL said: “I’d love to have Otis and Chad Gable in there too. I love those two. Those guys crack me up. They’re so entertaining. That new look of Otis is just fantastic.”

Getting a compliment from JBL is no easy feat, which shows how high a calibre Priest has reached. But there’s plenty more to come from the 6ft 5in powerhouse, including a potential run at world honours.
