The icon was rendered devastated as the goalkeeper denied his effort at the Atlanta Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Going into tonight’s Last 16 fixture, Argentina were massive favourites to overcome Egypt and advance to the quarter-finals. However, the South American giants certainly didn’t hit the ground running.
In the 15th minute, Yasser Ibrahim leapt through the air, getting his head on the end of a cross to send the ball flying into the back of the net, giving his side a surprising lead.

However, it didn’t look like the advantage was going to last for long, when, just minutes later, Argentina won a penalty.
Earlier this tournament, Lionel Messi set a record for the most missed penalties at the World Cup. And while it’s certainly not his greatest stat, the icon has just enhanced it further.
The superstar stepped up to the spot and fired his attempt towards the net. However, the ball wasn’t struck well enough, as Mostafa Shobeir dived to his left, saving the effort.
Following the mishap, Ally McCoist said on commentary for ITV: “Lionel Messi did not look confident.”
