Following the match, a heartbroken Michael Carrick spoke to Sky Sports, and rather than throw any of his players under the bus, he completely blamed himself for the horrendous result.

When asked what went wrong, the United head coach replied: “I think there are a lot of things. There’s a number of things that we’ll look at and dissect. I know quite a bit of where it went wrong. We can’t accept that as a group. Listen, I take responsibility for it. The performance towards the end of the second-half, that’s on me. We all have to get better. We have a big game on Sunday that we need to prepare for. We’re out of this competition, and we’ve got to get back to winning football matches. It doesn’t feel good at the moment; let me tell you.”
