EXCLUSIVE: Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen and Luke Littler are all in the conversation for the greatest darts player of all time.
However, in the eyes of a 2x major winner, the answer to the famous question only has one answer.
Nathan Aspinall says Phil Taylor is greater than Michael van Gerwen
Having emerged victorious at the 2019 UK Open and the 2023 World Darts Matchplay, Nathan Aspinall certainly knows a thing or two about the sport. And in his opinion, ‘The Green Machine’ is the best of the modern era. However, regardless of the Dutchman’s achievements, Aspinall claims he’s not surpassed ‘The Power’.
WOW: The record-breaking amount of money Luke Littler has made after winning World Matchplay Darts 2026
When asked for his GOAT, during an exclusive interview with Sporf, via 247Bet, the 35-year-old replied: “You have to say, Phil Taylor. Anyone who doesn’t say Phil Taylor is delusional. He’s a 16x world champion and a 16x world Matchplay champion. In modern times, it’s Michael van Gerwen; he’s the guy I’ve looked up to in darts. He’s probably not my favourite player, but as an inspiration, I’ve always wanted what Michael has got. He knows that, and he’s used it against me a few times when I’ve played him. In modern times Michael, but of all time, it’s Phil.”
Nathan Aspinall went to Marbella with Joe Cullen
While Aspinall doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with ‘Mighty Mike’, he has an extremely strong bond with Joe Cullen, with whom he’s recently shared a wild holiday.
The darts player chuckled: “We’ve just come back from a stag-do and also playing golf together in Marbella, so I’ve spent a lot of time with Joe. He’s a great lad. At exhibitions, we have a sing-song on the stage and have a lot of banter together. We’re very similar people. We’re there to enjoy ourselves and have a good life. He’s actually the flower boy on my wedding day.”
