Mo Salah said he wanted to share a ‘last dance’ with Lionel Messi

Going into the Last 16 clash tonight, Argentina were expected to dispatch of Egypt with ease and waltz into the next round. However, things were far more difficult than expected.

In the 15th minute, Yasser Ibrahim bagged a header to give his side the lead, before Lionel Messi missed another World Cup penalty.

It then went from bad to worse for the South American side, when Mostafa Ziko bagged his country’s second. At this point, Argentina burst into life, with Cristian Romero pulling one back, before Lionel Messi redeemed himself with a tremendous finish.

Then, in a stunning moment, Enzo Fernandez found the winner to complete the comeback.

The final whistle ended the chance of Mo Salah becoming a world champion, with the icon left understandably devastated.

During a press conference, after Egypt had beaten Australia but before Argentina had triumphed over Cape Verde, the legend was asked whether he’d rather share a last dance with Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane or Neymar, to which the superstar replied: “Messi.”

In a touching moment, Salah did get to have his last dance with the Argentine, in what is very likely arguably the greatest player of all time’s last World Cup too.
