Paul Scholes believes one man had more natural ability than anyone he ever played with.

With one of the greatest footballing IQs in the history of the sport, there’s no denying the Manchester United legend knows talent when he sees it.

Paul Scholes has graced the field alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez, but in his mind, Juan Sebastián Verón still stands out from the pack.

During an episode of The Good, the Bad and the Football, he claimed: “Verón, when you talk about the most naturally talented, his ability was unbelievable. I think he probably was the most naturally talented I ever played with.”

Nicky Butt added: “I remember, I was the third choice behind Scholes and Roy Keane, and I’d play certain times. I remember being on holiday, and [a newspaper] said that we’d signed Veron. His first game, I’ll never forget it; it was against Everton, and I was suspended and in the stand. Veron played, and he was unbelievable. He came off with ten minutes left to a round of applause; I was sinking in my chair, thinking, ‘That’s me done’.”

While Scholes has had many fantastic teammates, he’s played against many a brilliant footballer in equal measure.

Throughout his time in the Premier League, the legend was constantly compared to Steven Gerrard.

With the Liverpudlian playing in the same position, fans have debated who the superior midfielder was for many a year.

When asked to give his stance on the age-old question, Scholes revealed whether he thinks he was better than Gerrard.
