Matt Freese just made a monumental error during USA vs Belgium at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The hosts suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat in the Last 16 at the Seattle Stadium in Seattle, USA.

Matt Freese makes horrendous blunder during USA vs Belgium

Going into the match, USA had a lot of momentum, having performed extremely well throughout the tournament. However, despite showing flashes of brilliance earlier in the competition, it all fell apart against Belgium.

While USA fought back after going down early, they were eventually blown away. A second Belgium goal left, Mauricio Pochettino kicking bottles down the touchline. And things didn’t improve for the hosts.

In the second half, USA needed something massive to happen to turn the game around. However, what ended up transpiring was nothing short of horrendous.

Matt Freese came way out of his box to clear the ball, but took far too much time, and under a little bit of pressure, ended up completely losing it to Charles De Ketelaere.

The Belgian knocked the ball to Hans Vanaken, who kicked it into an empty net, to leave the US goalkeeper with his hands on his head in a state of despair.

Of course, fans took to social media to voice their opinions on what transpired.

One said: “Unbelievable mistake from Matt Freese, and Belgium have a third.”

A second added: “Matt Freese just ended my love for the game. What is wrong with him?”

A third posted: “What a joke.”

Romelu Lukaku later bagged a fourth goal for the Belgians, ending a very tough day at the office for the USA.
