Harry Kane told his England teammates to enjoy the moment

Going into this evening’s Round of 32 match, England were huge favourites to defeat DR Congo. However, when Brian Cipenga smashed the ball past Jordan Pickford after just seven minutes to give the underdogs the lead, the European powerhouses were quickly reminded of the importance of not underestimating anyone.

At times, it looked as though Thomas Tuchel’s men were going to crash out of the competition, having suffered an embarrassing defeat. However, the captain wasn’t going to let that happen.

Showcasing heroics in abundance, Harry Kane scored twice, including an absolute screamer, to save his team when they really needed it.

Following the match, he had a heartwarming chat with his teammates.

When asked during the BBC broadcast what he said, Kane replied: “I just told the boys to enjoy it. Sometimes, as an England player, when you go through tough games like this, where you’re expected to win, you don’t really celebrate how you should. We’re the same as every other nation, we’re through, so enjoy it, we’re in a World Cup, we’re fighting for every moment and little margin. We need to enjoy it with the fans like we did, and we go again in four days.”
