Prior to kick-off ahead of PSG’s clash with Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final, Steven Gerrard provided his expert analysis on Ousmane Dembele.

The ex-midfielder explained: “I think the Ballon d’Or has given him that football arrogance in a good way. He actually thinks he belongs on that level with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. I think the best thing that happened to this kid is to get out of the shadow of those other world-class players to be his own man, to lead his own team. He has delivered over the last couple of years. I just feel, watching him this season, the Ballon d’Or has just elevated his confidence and his belief. I think he thinks he can terrorise any defense.”

Last week, Dembele played his part in one of the greatest matches in football history. In a game that delivered in abundance, PSG walked away with a 5-4 victory in front of their adoring fans.

However, tonight, they didn’t have home advantage, with the squad having to travel to the Allianz Arena in Germany, for a showdown of paramount importance.

Proving he can deliver when it counts, it didn’t take long for Dembele to hit the back of the net, bolstering his case to win another Ballon d’Or.

However, one former 2x Champions League winner believes Dembele is still firmly in the race.

This all-time great has been incredibly impressed by what he’s seen from the PSG man as of late.
