Matvey Safonov collapses right before Lille vs PSG
Prior to the match, Matvey Safonov was going all out to adequately prepare for the Ligue 1 fixture at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
However, in one bizarre moment, things went completely astray. The shotstopper dived high through the air to work on punching the ball away from his net. But as he was falling, his head connected with the body of his goalkeeping coach, Borja Alvarez, resulting in his neck bending at an awkward angle.
Subsequently, the player collapsed on the floor, with the medical team rushing onto the field to check on his well-being. As he was approached, Safonov pointed at his neck, indicating that there could be a real issue.
Of course, thinking that the Russian wouldn’t be able to play, Lucas Chevalier and Alessandro Longoni continued with their preparations.
The decision appeared to go to the wire, with a ticketing issue resulting in the game being delayed by 15 minutes, allowing the team a little longer to make its decision.
Right before the game kicked off, the stadium announcer confirmed that, despite the doubts, the talented footballer would indeed be playing in the fixture.
However, despite being confirmed in the starting XI, things went further astray for the PSG number one very quickly, with Hákon Haraldsson scoring for Lille after 21 minutes.
