The clash with the FA Cup winners couldn’t have gone much better for ‘The Gunners’.

Arsenal well and truly hit the ground running when Riccardo Calafiori scored after just 24 seconds, before Kai Havertz utilised his head to find the second.

To really rub sailt into the wounds, Martin Odegaard humiliated Gianluigi Donnarumma to put the cherry on top of what was a horrendous cake for Enzo Maresca and his team to eat.

However, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, weren’t in the squad, with the pair linked with potential moves away from the Emirates to Italy and Turkey. But wanting to keep his players at the club, Mikel Arteta is trying to extend the size of the matchday squad.

During his post-match interview with TNT Sports, the manager said: “Really sad to not have their availability. I have been fighting with the Premier League to extend them and to accommodate more players in the squad. They deserve to be in the squad. Hopefully we can change that rule.”

With such a good display, it’s no surprise that Arteta had plenty of positive things to say about his team.

The Spaniard enthused: “A really good performance. To show the desire we showed and the reaction, I was really impressed. I told them I really enjoyed watching them play.

“[I was] A bit surprised [by the result]. We had the pre-season, and we had eight to nine players to get tested. To play in the manner we did is extremely impressive.”
