Mikel Arteta reacts to Arsenal losing Champions league final… ‘It’s difficult to accept’

Mikel Arteta was nothing short of devastated to miss out on winning the Champions League.

The Spaniard came agonisingly close to guiding Arsenal to a historic victory against PSG at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.

Tonight, ‘The Gunners’ hit the ground running, with Kai Havertz smashing the ball into the back of the net after five minutes.

Alas, they couldn’t maintain their lead, with Ousmane Dembele converting from the spot to level the score.

However, there were no more goals in normal time, or indeed extra time, resulting in a penalty shootout.

Sadly for the travelling English contingent, Gabriel and Eberechi Eze both missed wildly, opening the door for PSG to retain their trophy.

Following the defeat, Mikel Arteta confessed that he’s understandably extremely upset.

In his post-match interview with TNT Sports, he explained: “Yeah, it’s very difficult to accept when you’re so consistent throughout the competition on the way to the final, and at the end you lose the trophy on penalty kicks, so it’s a difficult one.”

When asked about his squad, the former midfielder replied: “They’ve given us so much joy. It’s a privilege to manage this group of players, the way they carry this badge and how much they put into it. We got the big one, but missed out on the biggest one.”

Arteta then gave his stance on whether he can take anything out of how good Arsenal were throughout the competition, stating: “We haven’t done it for 20 years; it’s only the second time in our history that we’ve done it, so we need to recognise the season that we had, but at the moment, nobody is going to take away the pain.”
