Moses Itauma rushed to hospital after suffering an injury during devastating defeat to Filip Hrgovic

Moses Itauma ended up on a stretcher after his heartbreaking loss to Filip Hrgovic.

The pair of boxing titans went to war in a thrilling contest at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Moses Itauma and Filip Hrgovic each showcased heart in abundance in their battle for the vacant IBF world heavyweight championship.

Going into the match-up, despite being just 21 years of age, the Brit was considered the favourite. While untested, he’d showcased remarkable speed and power, convincing fans around the globe that he was the future of the division. And at times, he very much looked like he had the capability of being just that, by dominating his rival for the majority of the bout.

However, while Hrgovic might not be as quick or as spectacular, the one thing he has over every other fighter in the division is a truly remarkable chin, that is capable of absorbing enormous blows and standing strong.

After unleashing everything he had in the eighth, Itauma was a sitting duck, with Hrgovic coming out in the ninth, intent on closing the show, landing a plethora of punishing blows that left his opponent falling all over the ring, prompting both the referee and Ben Davidson to collectively call a halt to the action.

Subsequently, Itauma was taken to hospital on a stretcher, with Frank Warren revealing that the superstar had suffered some damage.

During the post-fight press conference, the promoter explained: “Moses has gone to hospital. He has done something to his leg.

“Obviously he has to be checked over; it was a brutal fight.

“He did something to his leg, and he was knackered as well. It was a very fast-paced fight.”

Who will Filip Hrgovic fight next?

While Itauma will have to nurse his injury, the world is truly Hrgovic’s oyster.

Fans are already lining up several potential bouts for the new champion.

However, it doesn’t look like he’ll have much of a choice regarding his immediate future.
