It was a very eventful first-half for Belgium. The underdogs, who are coming off a famous victory against USA, entered the match tonight hoping to spring another big upset.

However, that dream was made to look extremely unlikely when Fabian Ruiz scored in the 30th minute.

Having not conceded throughout the competition up until this point, the Spanish defence has earned a fearsome reputation. But that all came crashing down when Charles De Ketelaere bagged an equaliser in the dying minutes of the opening 45 minutes, reminding the world that they’ll never give up.

The heart of the players has been on full display throughout the competition. And this evening, one Belgian international took things up a notch by continuing through injury.

When Marc Cucurella caught Timothy Castagne with his arm, the Fulham defender was clearly in pain, holding his nose with his hands to stop the blood from pouring out.

Rushing to his aid, the medical staff wiped Castagne’s face before the 30-year-old demanded he continue, finishing the opening 45 minutes with tissue in his nostrils to subdue the bleeding.

Reacting to the incident, a fan posted on X: “Man down! Timothy Castagne is caught by a stray arm from Marc Cucurella and takes a nasty blow to the face…. look at that pain.”
