Phil Foden sent off for violent outburst against Bruno Fernandes during Manchester United vs Manchester City

Phil Foden received a red card after lashing out at Bruno Fernandes.

The first-half of Manchester United vs Manchester City was certainly dramatic.

In front of a packed crowd at Old Trafford, Phil Foden lashed out at Bruno Fernandes.

The shocking moment marked the first time since 2006 that a Manchester City player had received a red card in the famous derby.

In the 23rd minute, the Englishman was challenged by the Portuguese star, resulting in him tumbling towards the ground, landing on top of the ball.

Subsequently, in an apparent attempt to get to the ball, Fernandes ended up kicking his opponent, who was rendered furious.

From a grounded position, Foden fired back, booting the United star in the stomach.

Left in pain, Fernandes collapsed to the floor with a look of agony on his face.

The referee swiftly red-carded the City midfielder, who complained to no avail.

After reviewing what had happened, VAR official Matt Donohue claimed: “That looks like a clear red card to me. Looks to be a secondary movement.”

Roy Keane reacts to Phil Foden getting sent off

Despite his allegiance to United, Roy Keane wasn’t convinced that the referee made the right decision to send Foden off.

According to the Irishman, it was actually the United playmaker who deserved the punishment.

During the Sky Sports broadcast, Keane explained: “The strange thing is that Fernandes gives a kick. For me, he is the one who is violent here. I don’t think it’s a red card for Foden; l really don’t.”
