This football match in Uruguay took a dramatic turn when a clearance resulted in a car crash.

None of the fans in attendance were expecting this outrageous moment.

Uruguay Montevideo player causes car crash

On August 8, Uruguay Montevideo and Paysandu went toe-to-toe at the Estadio Parque ANCAP.

And in a moment he’ll never forget, the home team’s Richard Nunez accidentally put those driving past the arena in risk of serious danger when he put an end to a promising counter-attack.

With the match at 0-0, Paysandu took the opportunity to burst forward following a relatively subpar corner from Uruguay Montevideo.

However, Nunez refused to let the visitors take the lead on his watch, booting the ball outside of the stadium where it ended up on the road.

As the ball rolled into the traffic, one car ended up smashing into the back of another, with the game having to stop for 20 minutes. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Fans react to clearance causing a car crash

The shocking moment was caught on ESPN, with viewers in massive numbers, heading to social media to react.

One said: “A car slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting it and got rear-ended. Pure South American football.”

Another added: “One of the most crazy things I’ve ever seen.”

A third wrote: “Go explain to your boss that a wild clearance from the Uruguay Montevideo defender made you crash and that’s why you were late.”

While a fourth joked: “What will they tell the insurance company?”

Uruguay Montevideo went on to win the game 1-0, with Lucas Rodriguez scoring the only goal of the contest before half-time.

The victory propelled the South American side into eighth place in the Segunda Division Profesional, where they are now just seven points behind Plaza Colonia, who sit at the top of the table.
