Alas, they couldn’t continue that momentum into 2026/27, with the season starting off horrendously. And the misery has continued into this afternoon’s game.

After a fairly quiet start to the second half, the hosts eventually managed to find the lead. When the United defence failed to adequately clear their lines, Calvin Bassey fired a shot from distance, which Senne Lammens failed to contain, knocking the ball into the path of Lisandro Martinez, who kicked it into his own goal to give the home side the lead.

Luckily, the Argentine was saved some embarrassment, with Matheus Cunha scoring late to rescue a point, with the fixture finishing 1-0.

Of course, fans were quick to head to social media to give their take on the disaster.

One said: “Terrible goalkeeping by Lammens but an even more ridiculous own goal by Lisandro Martinez,” while another added: “Lisandro Martinez, I’ve never seen such terrible defending in my entire life.”

A third wrote: “Lisandro Martínez with a calamitous own goal.”
