Martin Zubimendi might have secured himself a new position at Arsenal.
Thus far into the 2026/27 campaign, the Spaniard has found himself fighting for minutes at the Emirates.
Martin Zubimendi could become the new right-back at Arsenal
On Tuesday evening, Martin Zubimendi featured for Arsenal in a 4-2 third-round Carabao Cup victory against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
However, rather than playing in his usual position, the footballer was forced to take on the right-back role.
With starts hard to come by, the midfielder would’ve been thankful that Mikel Arteta gave him an opportunity to shine.
In the final game of last season, the talented athlete proved he had the minerals to play in the position during a 2-1 victory for Arsenal against Crystal Palace.
And with Ben White suffering an injury to his groin during his side’s 2-0 win over Sunderland at the weekend, there might be an opportunity for Zubimendi to replace the Englishman for the time being.
Due to the absence of Jurrien Timber, who is now getting back into the mix, White has played frequently throughout the campaign. Alas, he simply couldn’t continue at the Stadium of Light, with the Dutchman making a 45-minute cameo in his place.
However, Arteta claimed that Timber isn’t quite ready to play full games yet. Therefore, the idea of throwing him in the deep end against Brighton on Saturday could prove to be a disastrous decision.
The defensive situation at the Emirates is rather fragile. Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera are both out with injuries.
However, Arteta could have the solution in the form of Zubimendi.
Liverpool could lose star player to Arsenal
While Arsenal is having problems at the back, they still look like the best side in the Premier League.
Currently, the Emirates is the most desirable place in the country for any footballer to hone their craft.
And with that in mind, Liverpool could lose a star player to Arsenal.
