Lionel Messi has delivered something truly special to eliminate England from the FIFA World Cup 2026.

In a dramatic match, Argentina left it late to win 2-1 at the Atlanta Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Going into tonight, ‘Three Lions’ supporters truly believed that this was an opportunity they would take to get into their first World Cup final since 1966. And at one point, the dream looked like it was going to come to fruition, when Anthony Gordon gave England the lead.

Alas, they couldn’t hold on. In the 86th minute, Lionel Messi passed the ball to Enzo Fernández, who produced a magnificent strike to smash his effort into the back of the net.

At this point, the doors were flung open, with a dreaded, inevitable second goal right around the corner. In the second minute of added time, possibly the greatest footballer to have ever graced the sport, whipped in a brilliant cross, which Lautaro Martínez headed home.
